Unpaid Overtime: Killing McDonald's Managers

Date: January 27, 2010By: Richard Celler

Here is an interesting story regarding overtime in Japan. This overtime is unpaid and it is expected of managers: http://www.thecommentfactory.com/unpaid-overtime-is-killing-mcdonalds-managers-2620.

The Japanese actually have a word for this. "Karoshi" is a Japanese word that roughly translates to “death from overwork.” The story points out that "many McDonald’s managers estimate that they spend roughly 80 hours per month engaged in unpaid overtime."

Obviously, working your employees to death is the most egregious example of putting profits before employees. While lawsuits are being brought against the company, so far there have been few, if any, serious consequences to their actions.
