Discrimination and Retaliation in the Workplace

Protect Your Rights

Hello again loyal readers-

As 2010 jumps into full swing, our national wage and hour practice continues to steal the limelight from another important yet understated area of our practice- our civil rights/ discrimination practice

In the last few years, we have secured well over a million dollars in verdicts and settlements for clients who were discriminated against on the basis of having HIV, being pregnant, being over forty years old, being disabled being jewish, refusing to follow scientology practices of their employer, being black, hispanic, or other.  We also have filed numerous claims against employers who retaliated against employees for filing such claims.

It's very easy these days to assume that this "stuff doesn't happen anymore in today's working place."  With all the training and publicity on these types of cases over the past 20 years, you would figure that employer's get the message that this conduct is not tolerable.  Your assumptions and conclusions are unfortunately wrong.  Discrimination and retaliation exist and still run rampant throughout America's workplace

Remember, an employer can fire you for being a bad employee, but they can't fire you for being part of a protected category (race, religion, age, pregnancy, sexual orientation, etc.)  We receive hundreds of calls a month on potential claims in these areas.  If you feel you are being discriminated or retaliated against in violation of your civil rights, do something about it.  If you won't who do you think will?

Stay informed my friends-  Speak to you soon-
